OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
If you purchase a field-grown palm that has been balled and wrapped in plastic but it is not to be planted out immediately it is important to store the palm properly.
The palms can remain out of the ground for long periods provided that the root ball is watered regularly and is not allowed to dry out. This can easily be done by placing a hose into the root-ball and allowing it to fill up - a medium trickle is best while a strong jet of water can damage the roots. If the root ball does dry out it will severely damage the palm and reduce its chances of a proper establishment.
If, at all possible, store the palm in a semi shaded area and water the fronds of the palm regularly. If the palm is to be held on an exposed sight then ensure that it is tied up as strong wind can knock the palm over and cause damage to the growing spike.
