PALMCO HISTORY
Palmco was started in the early 1990’s by Chris Brunton and Neil Keating. Both were extremely passionate about palms and had a lot of experience in the horticultural industry.
Growing palms never tried commercially in New Zealand was challenging and as industry pioneers they relied on Kiwi ingenuity to solve a lot of problems – which created a nursery that prides itself on inventiveness and innovation in growing and harvesting palms.
Some of the first palms planted on the property were around the house. Today this established subtropical garden features wonderful specimen palms.
While it took many years before the palms were ready to harvest it was clear that they were on to something very special and Palmco quickly established itself as New Zealand’s premier supplier in field grown palms. This reputation was enhanced when in 2001 they won a gold medal at the Ellerslie Flower Show.
It was not long before local residents in Kerikeri started to ask if they had someone to plant the palms as well. And thus Palmco Landscaping was born. Through hard work and creative solutions the landscaping quickly developed a reputation as one of the best in Northland.
In 2005, Chris and Neil sold the business to Kristin and Alexander Lammerting. Demand for palms has been so high that the nursery has doubled in size and planted out many new and interesting varieties.
While Palmco has changed a lot over the years, it still holds the values that Chris and Neil started when they planted out their first row of palms. Good quality palms, friendly service and rolling up the sleeves and getting the job done.
